Since Pride Fort Lauderdale had already begun laying the foundations for an international pride event, they made the decision to put all that work towards organizing Pride of the Americas instead. Pride Fort Lauderdale had been hoping to host WorldPride 2021, but the event’s organization, InterPride, selected Copenhagen to host WorldPride that year instead. Following the success of the expanded Pride Fort Lauderdale last year, the organization hopes to keep up momentum with the first-ever Pan-American pride event, inviting other pride organizations and LGBTQ+ indivuduals from across the Americas to participate. Fort Lauderdale is preparing to host the world’s first Pride of the Americas in 2020, reports Bill Henning for Hotspots magazine.
